H2O HELIC'O

Firefighting helicopter

OBJECTIVES

  1. Provide an urban solution specially for fighting fires at great height ( GHF) and/or fires difficult (DAF) to access by conventionnal methods.
  2. Be used in addition to and in support of articulated arms that are time-consuming to use and which lose spray force as water exits the hose owing to the height.
  3. Make use of an aerial method with a a rapid response time (5 minutes) between the time of take-off and arrival on scene in order to neutralise the start of the fire before it becomes larger in scale.
  4. Limit the damage and thus the reconstruction costs.
  5. Deploy a precise and grouped shot with a sensible amount of water and which stays very efficient.
  6. To be able to pray the fire site with water for one minute and then quickly refill in 30 seconds at a water source in order to re-engage.
  7. Fire a shot which is (most importantly) horizontal and multidirectional for fire sources located on vertical installations and inside a place. Any other “Bambi bucket” (A) and central reservoir (B) systems useful when fighting forest fires are unsuitable as the aerial drop is performed in one go and vertically without being overly accurate. The fixed hoses under the unit are more precise but force the pilot to do everything, which reduces effectiveness and responsiveness (C et D).
  1. Prevent all collateral damage owing to an overly large impact of the weight of the water and waterfall speed (priceless artefacts, infrastructure, etc…).
  2. Prevent flooding caused by an overly large quantity of water.
